APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Jan. 19

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Jan. 19 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables and flowers.

Treatment Manual. The USDA APHIS PPQ Treatment Manual (here) has been updated to align with docket no. APHIS- 2016-0032, effective Jan. 19, 2017. Star apple from Vietnam has been added to Table 5-2-4 on page 5-2-73.

Fruits and Vegetables. The Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Manual (here) and the Fruits and Vegetables Import Requirements (FAVIR) database (here) have been updated. The specific changes and the reasons for these changes are listed below:

  • Star apple (Chrysophyllum cainito) has been added to the list of admissible commodities from Vietnam (Docket ID: APHIS-2016-0032, effective 01/19/2017). NOTE: At this time, import permits will not be issued. Until program requirements are finalized, the commodities will not be authorized entry into the United States.
  • Manual Table 3-265 Vietnam -- star apple and associated footnote information has been added to the table
  • Manual Table 6-3 and Table 6-19 -- star apple and associated scientific and common names have been added to the tables.
