APHIS Updates PPQ Manuals for Dec. 20-21

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service announced changes Dec. 20-21 to Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) electronic manuals. While some changes are minor, other changes may affect the admissibility of the plant products, including fruits, vegetables and flowers.

CITES Timber Species: The CITES Timber Species Manual (here) has been updated, 12/2016-54. The entire genus Dalbergia spp. (except for Dalbergia nigra listed in CITES Appendix I), Guibourtia demeusei, Guibourtia pellegriniana, Guibourtia tessmanni (new), and Pterocarpus erinaceus (new) were listed in CITES Appendix II at the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES (CoP17), and those listings become effective January 2, 2017. Revisions on the following pages identify the currently listed rosewood species that remain effective through January 1, 2017; and those that will be effective January 2, 2017:

  • Chapter 2, Imports: pages 2-6, 2-7, 2-14 through 2-20, 2-22, 2-24, 2-35 through 2-40, 2-43, 2-44, 2-47, 2-48, 2-66 through 2-77
  • Chapter 3, Re-exports: pages 3-6, 3-7, 3-15 through 3-21, 3-23, 3-25, 3-36 through 3-39, 3-42, 3-43, 3-51 through 3-59

Plants for Planting: The Plants for Planting Manual (here) has been updated, 12/2016-50. Revisions, indicated by a black change bar in the left margin of each revised page, are as follows:

  • Page 2-14: Removed links to Canada/U.S. Greenhouse Certification Program and the expired list of plants excluded from the Canada/U.S. Greenhouse Certification Program for export to the United States
  • Page 2-15: Replaced links with a link to the updated U.S.-Canada Greenhouse Grown Certification Program (here)
