From March to September 2017, people can dial seven or 10 digits. Also Thursday, the New York Public Service Commission announced six public hearings in the upstate 518 area code to seek feedback on whether to use an overlay or split the area in half to relieve number exhaust. The hearings will be July 26 to Aug. 4 in a variety of places, the commission notice said.
