U.S. Extends Belarus Sanctions Relief

The U.S. is extending until Oct. 31 the suspension of sanctions against the following Belarusian entities, which were previously scheduled to expire on April 30, the Office of Foreign Assets Control said (here):

“We view it as an incentive for the Government of Belarus to take additional steps in terms of respect for human rights, media freedoms, civil society freedoms, and democratic elections—especially, I think, for the upcoming 2016 parliamentary elections,” a State Department spokesman said April 29 during State’s daily press briefing (here). “And we also are providing this relief in part to support Belarus’s economic independence and as well as its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
