BIS Hands Down Ten Year Export Bans to Weapons Smugglers
The Bureau of Industry and Security denied export privileges for ten years (from the date of respective convictions) for the following individuals:

- Zhifu Lin: A New York district court sentenced Lin to 108 months in prison over sales of semi-automatic handguns, rifles, shotguns, and military-style assault weapons to China (see 13111815). Lin’s export ban will run its course ten years from the Nov. 15, 2013 conviction.
- Gregorio Rodriguez-Aranda and Maria Luisa Sanchez-Lopez: A Texas district court handed down sentences to Mexican nationals Rodriquez-Aranda and Sanchez-Lopez in early 2014 over unauthorized exports of ammunition and magazines (here). Their export ban will expire ten years from their Feb. 13, 2014 conviction.
The three individuals, all currently imprisoned in the U.S., can appeal the denial orders within 45 days. In recent days, BIS placed the three on the Denied Persons List (see 1412230014).
