Census Releases AES Trouble-Shooting Tips

The U.S. Census Bureau on Nov. 28 released trouble-shooting techniques to resolve Fatal Error notification issues in the Automated Export System. Fatal Errors occur when a shipment is rejected in AES.

Fatal Error 256: USPPI Postal Code Not Valid For State

Reason: The Postal Code and State Code reported in the USPPI Address do not match.

Resolution: The reported USPPI State Code must match the state associated to the Postal Code. Verify the USPPI State Code and Postal Code combination, correct the shipment and resubmit.

Fatal Error 641: Quantity 1 Must Be Greater Than Zero

Reason: The Schedule B/HTS Number reported requires a Quantity 1 to be reported and Quantity 1 is missing.

Resolution: Report a Quantity 1 greater than zero. Verify the Quantity 1, correct the shipment and resubmit.
