USTR to Participate in Japan, EU, Bangladesh Negotiations and Events This Week

Acting Deputy U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Wendy Cutler will meet with senior Japanese negotiator Takeo Mori from June 9-10 to discuss automobile trade barriers in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Office of the USTR said in its weekly schedule. Cutler on June 10 will then deliver a keynote speech to a conference jointly hosted by Center for Strategic and International Studies and the Japan External Trade Organization. The speech will focus on economic integration in the Asia-Pacific region, said USTR in the release.

USTR chief Michael Froman will lead on June 11 a trade and investment meeting with undisclosed representatives of Central Asian countries, USTR said. Also on June 11, Froman will meet with Tofail Ahmed, the Bangladeshi minister of commerce, and Peter Beyer, a member of the German Bundestag. Froman will then on June 12 conduct a meeting with chief executive officers of medical device manufacturers and Michel Barnier, the European Union Commissioner for Internal Market and Services.

Deputy Assistant USTR for South and Central Asian Affairs Mara Burr will on June 14 speak on U.S.-Bangladeshi trade and investment at Harvard University’s Globalization and Sustainability of Bangladesh Garment Industry conference. The Obama administration is scheduled in the coming days and weeks to make a preliminary determination on the reinstatement of Bangladesh into the Generalized System of Preferences.
