FTZ Board Approves Merger, Reorganization of NYC Zones

The Foreign-Trade Zones Board announced the approval of a merger and reorganization of two FTZs located in New York City. FTZ 1 near the Port of N.Y./N.J. and FTZ 111 at John F. Kennedy International Airport will now together be designated FTZ 1. The combined zone will cover a service area of New York, Bronx, Queens, Kings, and Richmond Counties. It is also being reorganized under the Alternative Site Framework, which means companies within the service area can now request subzone status through the relatively simple “minor boundary modification” process. The City of New York requested the merger and reorganization in October (see 13102411).
