Census Releases AES Trouble-Shooting Tips

The U.S. Census Bureau on March 20 released trouble-shooting techniques to resolve frequent Fatal Error notification issues in the Automated Export System (AES). Fatal Errors occur when a shipment is rejected.

Fatal Error 256: USPPI Postal Code Not Valid For State

Reason: The Postal Code and State Code reported in the USPPI Address do not match.

Resolution: The reported USPPI State Code must match the state associated to the Postal Code. Verify the USPPI State Code and Postal Code combination, correct the shipment and resubmit.

Fatal Error 624: Schedule B/ HTS Number Outdated -- Cannot Be Used

Reason: The Schedule B/ HTS Number reported is no longer valid in AES.

Resolution: The Schedule B/ HTS Number reported on an EEI cannot be outdated (i.e., expired). Compare the Estimated Date of Export to the Begin and End date of the Schedule B/HTS Number reported, correct the shipment and resubmit.
