BIS Final Rule Harmonizes EAR with FTR Changes

The Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security is amending the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) to harmonize citations, nomenclature and procedures with revisions made to the Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Regulations. The final rule, an “editorial clean-up of references,” does not substantially change the EAR, said BIS. It replaces all EAR usage of “Shipper’s Export Declaration” with “Electronic Export Information,” a term introduced in FTR rules published in June 2008 and March 2013. The March 2013 rule is slated to take effect April 5, following a several month postponement (see 13110811).
