House Appropriations Chairman Makes Subcommittee Leadership Changes

House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers, R-Ky., announced on Nov. 13 changes to Appropriations subcommittee chairmanships. The changes are as follows:

  • Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., formerly chairman of the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee, will assume the Defense subcommittee chairmanship. The previous Defense subcommittee chairman, Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Fla., died on Oct. 18.
  • Rep. Mike Simpson, R-Idaho, formerly Chairman of the Interior and Environment Appropriations Subcommittee, will assume the Energy and Water Development subcommittee chairmanship
  • Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif., will assume the Interior and the Environment subcommittee chairmanship
  • Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., will assume the Legislative Branch chairmanship. The previous Legislative Branch subcommittee chairman, Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., resigned from Congress, effective in September.
