NCTO Brings On New President Tantillo

The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) on Aug. 6 appointed former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Augustine "Auggie" Tantillo as the new NCTO president, following the departure of Cass Johnson. Johnson served as NCTO president since the creation of the NCTO in 2004. In a press release, the NCTO highlighted Tantillo’s decades of industry experience, noting the challenges the U.S. textile industry faces in light of ongoing Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations. “In his new role as president, Auggie will continue NCTO’s unparalleled commitment to fighting on behalf of American textile manufacturing and jobs at home and abroad,” said Bill Jasper, Chairman of NCTO.

Tantillo previously served as Executive Director of the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition (AMTAC). He also served as Chief-of-Staff to former United States Senator Strom Thurmond of South Carolina and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce for Textiles and Apparel. His appointment to the position was effective on Aug. 6, according to the press release. NCTO spokesperson Eliza Levy declined to comment on the reason for the replacement.

“Our continued focus isn’t on the change in leadership,” Levy said. “It’s on the critical trade negotiations with the TPP and the focus on saving the tens of thousands of jobs in the U.S. textile industry that are being threatened by Vietnam and China.”
