- Third Trade and Investment Barriers Report. The EU published its third annual Trade and Investment Barriers Report. The report found that there were some key legal victories against China and Russia since they joined the WTO, but not all of the 25 key trade and investment barriers identified by the EU Commission last year, particularly protectionism, could be satisfactorily addressed. Specific issues include Chinese barriers to investment, the import ban in the agri-food market in India, and the new tax structure in Brazil which heavily favors domestic industry (here)
- EU-US trade talks. The European Commission drafted and sent to the EU Council for approval a draft mandate for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership Agreement with the U.S. The final agreement could see EU exports to the US rise by 28%, it said. Because tariffs between the two blocs are already low, the main aim of the agreement is to reduce bureaucracy, have similar regulations, and to make trade in services and procurement easier (here)
- Recalls. The European Commission issued its weekly list of measures to prevent or restrict the marketing or use of about 20 products in the EU, including certain motor vehicle parts, lighting equipment, electrical appliances, clothing, and furniture (here)
