Senators Back Obama's Transatlantic Agreement Plan

A bipartisan group of senators supported President Obama’s recent announcement of transatlantic agreement with the European Union. Sens. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), along with 13 other senators, sent a letter to President Obama Wednesday. In a press release, Portman said the agreement is a boost to American exporters and will enable U.S. companies to reach more markets.

The letter also encourages President Obama to slash obstacles to trade, by eliminating “unnecessary trade and regulatory barriers in all sectors, including difficult areas like agriculture and services.” The President announced plans for the transatlantic agreement in his State of the Union address Feb. 12 (see ITT's Online Archives 13021422).
