CBP Migrating ACE to Trusted Internet Gateway; Requires Host File Testing

In response to an Office of Management and Budget mandate, CBP is migrating all public facing applications behind a Trusted Internet Gateway (TIC), it said in CSMS message # 12-000565. The ACE application is one of the public facing CBP applications that will be migrating to the TIC, said CBP. Migration of the ACE application will consist of a change in the public IP currently associated with the ACE URL, it said.

Prior to CBP migrating the ACE application to the TIC, CBP will establish a secondary path via the TIC to the ACE application, it said. Users are being requested to conduct host file testing to ensure they can access the ACE application via this secondary connection prior to CBP migrating the application behind the TIC. Instructions on how to make changes to the local host file in order to accomplish this testing are available here. The new public facing IP for this change is 216.81.83.93. Users will need administrative rights to their laptop/PC to make these host file changes.

The goal of the testing will be to ensure users can still access the ACE application via the secondary path, CBP said. After making the host file changes, users should still be able to access ACE login screen using the same URL (ace.cbp.dhs.gov). The established test window for doing host testing is Dec. 29 -- Jan. 9. Users encountering any problems during testing should contact David Gilliam (david.lee.gilliam@cbp.dhs.gov), David Griggs (david.griggs@cbp.dhs.gov) or James Howard (james.j.howard@cbp.dhs.gov).
