Sides Said Analyzing Results of Two Days of Longshoremen Talks
The International Longshoremen's Association and the U.S. Maritime Alliance "will have their respective committees review their positions and analyze associated costs," resulting from proposals exchanged Oct. 23 and 24, said George Cohen, director of the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service in a statement on the ongoing talks. He said only that the two sides "discussed a number of major issues."

While the union and the shippers analyze the results of the two days of talks, Cohen said their "subcommittees will continue to meet in an effort to resolve additional outstanding issues."
Neither Cohen nor the parties would provide additional information, Cohen saying: "As is our custom and practice, due to the sensitive nature of these high profile negotiations, we will have no further comment on the schedule for the negotiations, their location, or the substance of what takes place during those negotiations."
