  • Russia accession to WTO. After 18 years of negotiations, Russia finally became a member of the World Trade Organization. The EU is Russia's first trading partner and Russia is the EU's third trading partner. For the first time both entities will be bound by multilateral rules and obligations for their mutual trade. As a result of membership, Russia will lower its import duties, limit its export duties, grant greater market access for EU services providers and facilitate rules and procedures in many areas affecting bilateral economic relations.   • EU-South Africa political dialog. The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, Catherine Ashton, is traveling to the 11th Ministerial Political dialog between the EU and South Africa. The EU is South Africa's main trading partner, the first foreign investor in the country, and its most important development partner. (here)
