has headed the ITU-T’s cybersecurity standards group for more than three years. Cybersecurity operations inherently involve diverse trust communities constantly collaborating, he said. “An intergovernmental organization such as the ITU has no real role to play, notwithstanding the secretary-general’s occasional press releases.” The ITU-T has for the past three years been “highly successful” in pulling together the world’s principal cybersecurity experts and bodies to assemble the specifications for techniques and activities to enhance trust and mitigate vulnerabilities inherent in the complex networked devices and services, he said. These specifications are advancing in the Internet Engineering Task Force, in collaboration with ITU-T, and specifically include the most advanced current techniques for exchanging malware information and remediations, he said.
