Senator Plans Bill on China CV Duties, Urges Passage of Currency Bill

Following a ruling by a Federal appeals court that countervailing duties may not be imposed on goods from China or other non-market economies, Senator Brown (D-OH) issued a press release outlining the next steps to “ensure the U.S. can legally fight back against unfair Chinese trade practices by imposing tariffs on illegally subsidized Chinese imports."

In his press release, Senator Brown announces his plans to introduce a bill that would allow the Commerce Department to legally apply tariffs and other countervailing duties to Chinese imports that benefit from illegal export subsidies. He also called on the House to pass the Currency Exchange Rate Oversight Reform Act (S. 1619), his China currency bill which was passed by the Senate on October 11, 2011.
