ITC Posts Preliminary Version of 2012 HTS, But May Have Problems

The International Trade Commission states it has posted a preliminary version of the 2012 Harmonized Tariff Schedule to its website, which will not be sent to the Government Printing Office for distribution. While this preliminary version is not intended to contain the numerous WCO-recommended tariff changes, it should contain the 484(f) Committee changes approved to take effect on January 1, 2012, as well as other non-WCO related changes (the WCO-recommended changes are waiting on a Presidential Proclamation which is expected to be signed in late 2011).

However, spot checking reveals that at least one of the January 1 484(f) changes is not listed in this preliminary version as expected.

ITT staff has contacted the ITC. Officials there note that there are several versions of the 2012 HTS in circulation, and staff is checking to see if any files need to be reposted.

ITT will update readers when a finalized, updated version of the preliminary 2012 HTS is posted. ITC states that the official 2012 HTS will be posted online and printed by the GPO once the Presidential Proclamation containing the WCO-recommended changes is in effect.
