Hearing on Draft Bill to Give NHTSA More Authority for Imported Vehicles, Equipment

On July 27, 2011, a Senate Commerce Subcommittee held a hearing on a draft bill to reauthorize the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The hearing focused on the highways and vehicle safety aspect of the NHTSA in the context of the Senate’s efforts to reauthorize the Highway Trust Fund.

According to Committee Chairman Rockefeller (D), the draft bill under consideration would make changes to NHTSA’s authorities and programs across the board and provide NHTSA with new authorities to monitor the safety of imported vehicles and vehicle equipment.
