Ways & Means Ranking Member Vows to Oppose Colombia FTA Bill

On June 27, 2011, House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Levin (D) expressed support for both the pending free trade agreements with Korea and Panama, but threatened to oppose the Colombia FTA bill.

According to Levin, “Republican refusal to include in the Colombia FTA implementing bill a reference to the document addressing the core issue that had prevented consideration of the FTA -- the Action Plan on Worker Rights -- and the Administration’s acquiescence to that refusal are totally unacceptable.” As a result, Levin states that he will actively oppose the Colombia FTA implementing bill.
