CPSC Delays Vote on Public Database Final Rule Until Nov 24
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that Commissioner Nord has exercised the right to a one-time deferral of the Commission’s vote on a final rule to establish a publicly available and searchable database of consumer product safety incidents, that is required by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008.

Therefore, CPSC will now vote on the public database final rule on November 24, 2010, instead of November 17, 2010.
Commissioners Nord & Northup Have Proposed an Alternative Rule
On November 9, 2010, Commissioners Nord and Northup proposed an alternative final rule to establish the public database. They stated that their version addresses the major flaws of the version advocated by the three other Commissioners by: tightening up who can submit information; improving the procedures for correcting inaccurate information; and putting in place procedures for review of reports. Nord Says Their Alternative Rule Removed from CPSC Website
According to Commissioner Nord’s blog, she and Commissioner Northup had posted a joint statement with a link to their alternative final rule on the CPSC website, but this statement was ordered to be removed by Chairman Tenenbaum’s office. She adds that those wishing to see a copy of the alternative rule may contact her office.
