CPSC to Hold August Public Meeting on FY 2012 Agenda and Priorities

The Consumer Product Safety Commission will conduct a public hearing on August 11, 2010 in Bethesda, MD to receive views from all interested parties about its agenda and priorities during fiscal year 2012, which begins October 1, 2011.

Highlights of Last Year’s Meeting

Last year, participants suggested that CPSC focus on the following agenda items and priority items in FY 2011 (which starts October 1, 2010):

  • Expand import surveillance;
  • Strengthen general apparel standard;
  • Operate with greater transparency, response to public;
  • Better identify emerging hazards;
  • Focus more resources on nanotechnology;
  • Consider next generation bar codes;
  • Accelerate XRF study, issue guidance;
  • Refocus on fire hazards/carbon monoxide;
  • Finish pending rulemakings on lighters, upholstered furniture, etc.
