2. Registration Open for WCO's Third Annual Customs Forum in Seattle
The World Customs Organization and the Trusted Trade Alliance have announced opening of registration and other details of the third annual World Customs Forum which will be held on October 5 and 6, 2009 in Seattle, Washington. This year's conference theme is "Trade Facilitation in a Time of Economic Crisis - Preserving the Engine of Global Economic Growth." 3. WCO Issues Annual Reports on Drugs, Tobacco, IPR
The World Customs Organization has issued Annual Reports on drugs, tobaccoand intellectual property rights regarding the illicit trade in these products during 2008 and the efforts by Customs administrations to protect the health and safety of global citizens through effective enforcement.
4. Treasury Designations Against FARC Under Narcotics Kingpin Act
The Office of Foreign Assets Control has designated Jose Cayetano Melo Perilla for materially assisting the narcotics trafficking activities of, and acting for or on behalf of, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a drug trafficking organization. OFAC also today named four entities that are owned, controlled, or directed by, or act for or on behalf of, Jose Cayetano Melo Perilla. These designations under the Kingpin Act freeze any assets the five designees may have under U.S. jurisdiction and prohibit U.S. persons from conducting financial or commercial transactions with them. 5. FWS Announces Partial Lifting of Restrictions on CITES-Listed Species from Paraguay
Effective immediately, the Fish and Wildlife Service is announcing the U.S. will allow the import of Appendix-III species and non-commercial shipments of any CITES-listed species exported directly from Paraguay. In addition, the Service will also allow the import of Appendix-III species of Paraguayan origin and non-commercial shipments of any CITES-listed species of Paraguayan origin from an intermediary country if the specimens were exported from Paraguay on or after August 10, 2009 or before September 29, 2003. 6. FWS Update on CITES Imposed or Lifted Trade Suspensions
FWS has issued an update on the withdrawal of several trade suspensions and the imposition of several new trade suspensions. Affected countries include Tanzania, Mongolia, Malawi, Vietnam, and Laos. 7. USTR Announces Meeting of Small and Minority Business Trade Committee

8. Canada Finds Expiry of AD/CV Duties on Steel Fasteners from China and/or Taiwan Likely to Result in Continued Dumping, Etc.
Canada Border Services Agency has made a determination in its expiry review concerning (1) the dumping of certain carbon steel fasteners from China and Taiwan and the subsidizing of such products from China, and (2) the dumping of certain stainless steel fasteners from Taiwan. CBSA has determined that the expiry of these findings is likely to result in the continuation or resumption of dumping of such products from China and Taiwan, and the subsidizing of such products from China. 9. New Port of Entry Facility in Douglas, Canada Adds NEXUS Lanes
Canada Border Services Agency has announced the opening of a new port of entry facility in Douglas, British Columbia. The Douglas port of entry is one of the busiest ports of entry in Canada, processing more than 2 million vehicles and over 3 million travelers each year. The new facility has increased the number of processing lanes from seven to ten, two of which can be used as dedicated NEXUS lanes for trusted travelers.
