2. U.S.-China Economic & Security Review Commission to Meet

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission will hold an open public hearing on May 20, 2009 in Washington, DC to address "The Impact of China's Economic and Security Interests in Continental Asia on the United States." 3. CPSC Issues Handbook on CPSIA for Sellers of Used Products

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a Handbook for Resale Stores and Product Resellers. The handbook is to help sellers of used products understand the requirements of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA). Among other things, it is now unlawful to sell recalled products, and the law sets strict limits for lead in paint and lead content and bans certain types of phthalates in certain toys and child care articles. 4. CPSC Posts Public Comments on CPSIA Tracking Label Requirement

The CPSC has posted public comments it received in response to its request for comments and information on the CPSIA "tracking label" requirement, which takes effect for children's products manufactured after August 14, 2009. 5. FDA Posts Enforcement Report for May 6th

6. FSIS Updates Export Requirements, Plant Lists for China, Russia, Etc.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service has posted updated export requirements for the following countries Russia, China, Armenia, and Malaysia. FSIS has also updated lists of U.S. plants approved to export to South Africa and Russia (pork).

8. Canada and EU to Launch Negotiations for Economic Partnership Agreement

Canadian and European Union leaders have announced the historic launch of negotiations toward an economic partnership agreement between Canada and the EU. According to Canada's Prime Minister Harper, this partnership has the potential to bring a $12 billion boost to the Canadian economy and lead to significant gains for both Canada and the EU. 9. WTO Adds Services Statistics, Updates World Tariff and Trade Profiles

The World Trade Organization now has new WTO Services Profiles providing detailed statistics on key "infrastructure services" (transportation, telecommunications, finance and insurance). The Services Profiles complete WTO's previous statistical publications focusing on the World Tariff Profiles and Trade Profiles, which have also been updated.
