2. Freight Shipments with Canada, Mexico Reached Record High in 2007
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics has issued a press release announcing that goods valued at more than $909 billion crossed the U.S. border in trade with Canada and Mexico in 2007, 4.9% higher than the previous record set in 2006. 3. Senators Warn Taiwan against Blocking U.S. Beef, Pork Exports
Senate Finance Committee Chairman Baucus and Ranking Member Grassley expressed their strong concern about Taiwan's efforts to block safe imports of U.S. farm products, particularly beef and pork. 4. APHIS Final Rule Removes SC from List of States Approved to Receive Horses from CEM-Affected Regions
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has issued a final rule, effective November 20, 2008, amending the animal importation regulations by removing South Carolina from the lists of States approved to receive certain stallions and mares imported into the U.S. from regions affected with contagious equine metritis. 5. OFAC Designates One Entity Under Terrorism EO
The Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued a notice publishing the name of one newly-designated entity whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to Executive Order 13224 of September 23, 2001, "Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Persons Who Commit, Threaten To Commit, or Support Terrorism." 6. OFAC Unblocks 21 Individuals Under Narcotics Trafficking EO
OFAC has issued a notice publishing the names of 21 individuals whose property and interests in property have been unblocked pursuant to Executive Order 12978 of October 21, 1995, "Blocking Assets and Prohibiting Transactions With Significant Narcotics Traffickers."
