3. BIS Updates Address of Individual Issued a Denial Order

The Bureau of Industry and Security issued a notice announcing that it is updating the address of Ralph Michel, who in November 2003 was denied participation for five years in any transaction involving the export from the U.S. to Pakistan of any item subject to the Export Administration Regulations or in any other activity subject to the EAR that involves Pakistan. 4. Report on Countries that are Millennium Challenge Candidates

The International Trade Administration issued a notice announcing that the Manufacturing Council will hold a meeting on September 23, 2008 in Rochester, NY to consider approving a draft letter of recommendation on Sustainable Manufacturing metrics. The Foreign Trade Zone Board is announcing that an application has been submitted to the FTZB by the Greater Rockford Airport Authority, grantee of FTZ 176, requesting special-purpose subzone status for the manufacture of flock fiber

7. OFAC Adds Entities, Vessels to its SDN List

The Office of Assets Control has designated the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), and 18 other affiliated entities, for providing logistical services to Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL). 8. BTS Releases Freight Transportation Services Index

According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the Freight Transportation Services Index (TSI) rose 1.2 percent in July from its June level, rising for the fourth consecutive month. The freight TSI measures the month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by the for-hire freight transportation industries. The index consists of data from for-hire trucking, rail, inland waterways, pipelines and air freight. 9. September 2008 Issue of CPSC Safety e-Newsletter

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has posted the September issue of its e-Newsletter entitled The Safety Review. 11. House Passes Bill to Prevent Tobacco Smuggling

On September 10, 2008, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4081, a bill to prevent tobacco smuggling, and to ensure the collection of all tobacco taxes, and for other purposes. 12. EC to Appeal Compliance Findings in WTO Banana Case

The World Trade Organization reports that the European Communities has notified the WTO of its intention to appeal the compliance panel reports in the banana dispute between the EC and certain Latin American countries and the U.S. Note that the U.S. does not export bananas to the EU itself, but three of the largest producers with plantations in Latin America are U.S.-based multinationals (Chiquita, Del Monte, and Dole). 13. WCO Training on Rules of Origin for Private Sector

The World Customs Organization is offering a workshop for the private sector on rules of origin: rules applicable to the European Union. The workshop consists of five hours of e-learning material and a two-day face-to-face training session on November 25-27, 2008 in Brussels.
