2. Man Sentenced for Supplying India w/ Controlled Technology
The Justice Department reports that Parthasarathy Sudarshan, the owner of an international electronics business, was sentenced to 35 months in prison for his role in a conspiracy to illegally export controlled electronic components to government entities in India that participate in the development of ballistic missiles, space launch vehicles, and fighter jets. 5. AES Export Compliance Seminar in Laredo, TX
The Laredo Licensed U.S. Customs Brokers Association, Inc. is sponsoring an Automated Export System Compliance Seminar and Workshop in Laredo, Texas July 22 & 23, 2008. The Census Bureau and port officers from U.S. Customs and Border Protection will guide attendees through the new Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR) requirements and explain how to smoothly get shipments through customs by complying with the FTR. 6. EC Starts Public Dialogue on Nanotechnologies
The European Commission has started its public dialogue on nanotechnologies. While current EU legislation covers in principle the challenges for health, safety and environment with regards to nanomaterials, there is further need for research and international cooperation. 7. BIS Issues Temporary Denial Order for Export of U.S. Aircraft to Iran
The Bureau of Industry and Security has issued a Temporary Denial Order suspending the export privileges of Galaxy Aviation Trade Company, three of its shareholders, Iran Air, and Ankair for 180 days. Evidence obtained by BIS shows that the respondent parties were planning to re-export a U.S.-origin Boeing 747 cargo aircraft to Iran from Turkey in violation of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). 8. State Dept Maintains Foreign Terrorist Organization Designation
The State Department found that circumstances that were the basis for the 2003 designation of Lashkar i Jhangvi as a foreign terrorist organization have not changed in such a manner as to warrant revocation of the designation; therefore, the designation of Lashkar i Jhangvi as a foreign terrorist organization, pursuant to Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended, shall be maintained. 9. AMS Seeks Nominations for Peanut Board
The Agricultural Marketing Service seeks nominations for individuals to be considered for selection as Peanut Standards Board members for terms of office ending June 30, 2011.
