2. Resignation of DHS Deputy Leaves Global Trade Exchange w/o a Champion

Shippers' NewsWire reports that U.S. Deputy Secretary for Homeland Security, Michael Jackson, has tendered his resignation, effective at the end of October 2007. The article states that Jackson's departure raises serious questions about whether DHS' initiative for a global trade data repository for security screening of cargo shipments, referred to as the Global Trade Exchange, will come to fruition without its champion. 3. DOT Requests 12 Month Stay of Court's HOS Ruling

According to Department of Transportation sources, on September 21, 2007, DOT requested a 12 month stay of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit's ruling to vacate the 11-hour daily driving limit and 34-hour restart provisions of the Hours-of-Service regulations so that it could gather data and address the questions raised by the court when it vacated the provisions.

4. DHS Aims for TWIC Enrollment to Begin in Early October

According to WashingtonTechnology, the Department of Homeland Security is aiming for early October to begin enrolling individuals for the Transportation Workers Identification Credential. DHS expects to release a detailed schedule shortly with the enrollment sites and dates of initiating enrollments. 5. CBP Cleveland Pipeline Lists Reorganized Commodity Specialist Teams

U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Cleveland Area Port has issued a Pipeline regarding its recent reorganization of the Commodity Specialist Teams at the Cleveland Service Area Port. 6. New York Firm Settles Allegations of Illegal Shipments to Iran

The Bureau of Industry and Security has issued a press release announcing that Henry Schein, Inc., of Melville, New York, agreed to pay a $165,000 civil penalty to settle 25 charges that it violated the Export Administration Regulations in connection with unlicensed exports of dental equipment. 7. Florida Company Settles Charges of Antiboycott Violations

The Bureau of Industry and Security has issued a press release announcing that Horner Xpress Worldwide, Inc., located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, has agreed to pay $8,600 in civil penalties to settle allegations it committed four violations of the antiboycott provisions of the Export Administration Regulations. U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued two notices announcing its intent to prepare environmental impact statements associated with proposals to construct and operate tactical infrastructure and supporting patrol roads along the U.S./Mexico international border in the San Diego, CA and Rio Grande Valley, TX sectors. The Office of Textiles and Apparel has posted the public comments it received regarding its request for comments on whether imports of certain Honduran cotton, wool, and man-made fiber socks and hosiery (socks) (merged Category 332/432 and 632 part) should be subject to possible safeguard actions under the U.S.-Dominican-Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement. 11. FMC Alert to Consumers Regarding Coral Sea Shipping

The Federal Maritime Commission has issued a notice to alert consumers about the activities of an entity using the name Coral Sea Shipping that appears to be operating in violation of the Shipping Act of 1984. According to the FMC, Coral Sea Shipping is not licensed and bonded, but is offering through its Web site (www.coralseashipping.com) to move household goods for shippers via ocean transportation to, or from, other countries.
