The State Department's Washington File reports that President Bush has asked Congress to renew Trade Promotion Authority (TPA, also known as "fast track"), which expires on July 1, 2007. According to the article, TPA allows the President to negotiate trade agreements and then send them to Congress for an up-or-down vote without amendment and on a strict timetable. The article notes that the Administration would have to submit any agreement covered by the existing TPA by April 2, 2007. 3. BIS Denies Certain Export Privileges for Activities Related to Export of Defense Articles Without License, Etc.
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued an Order denying certain export privileges for a period of ten years from the date of his conviction to Fernando Sero aka Ferdie Resada, a federal inmate, for activities related to the export of certain weapons parts to the Philippines with having first obtained a valid license from the State Department or written authorization. The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a notice publishing the names of two newly-designated individuals and one newly-designated entity, all of South Africa, effective January 26, 2007, whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to Executive Order (EO) 13224, "Blocking Property and Prohibiting Transactions With Persons Who Commit, Threaten To Commit, or Support Terrorism."
