The State Department has issued a notice stating that on January 10, 2007, it certified Madagascar and re-certified Nigeria as meeting the requirements of Section 609 of Public Law 101-162 for continued importation of shrimp into the U.S. (Nigeria's certification was previously withdrawn in 2004. 2. Fees for Rice Inspections Increased by Approximately 18 Percent

The Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration has issued a final rule, effective February 16, 2007, which, among other things, revises the regulations regarding the sampling, inspection, weighing, and certification for rice by increasing certain fees charged for services by approximately 18%. 3. EPA Reopens Comment Period on Draft Child Exposure Factors Handbook

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a notice that it is re-opening the public comment period to February 21, 2007 (from January 22, 2007) for the draft document titled, "Child-Specific Exposure Factors Handbook," which provides a summary of statistical data on various exposure factors used in assessing children's exposures. The EPA previously stated that it released the draft handbook solely for the purpose of pre-dissemination peer review under applicable information quality guidelines. Written technical comments must be received by February 21, 2007. 4. CPSC Announces Provisional Settlement Agreement with Nexgrill Industries, Inc.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a notice announcing that it has provisionally accepted a settlement agreement with Nexgrill Industries, Inc., which contains a $300,000 civil penalty. The penalty is in connection to alleged defective Nexgrill Gas Grills (model number 720-0025).
