Snow, speaking to a group of community bankers on March 14th, criticized congressional interest in an automatic 45-day security investigation of any foreign investment that could affect "economic security." 2. NCTO Supports Introduced Legislation That Would Require DHS to Source Textile/Apparel Products from U.S. Manufacturers

The National Council of Textile Organizations (NCTO) has issued a press release expressing strong support for legislation introduced in Congress that would expand Berry Amendment sourcing requirements to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The Berry Amendment, originally adopted in 1941, requires the Department of Defense to purchase products deemed essential to U.S. national security, such as textiles, apparel, parachutes, and tents, from U.S. manufacturers with 100% U.S. content. 3. USTR Announces Review of Labor Impact of Proposed U.S.-Korea FTA

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a notice announcing the initiation of a review of the impact of a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between the U.S. and the Republic of Korea on U.S. employment, including labor markets. Comment should be received by noon, March 31, 2006 to be assured of timely consideration in the preparation of the report. 4. Certain Monsanto Corn No Longer Regulated Under Genetically Engineered Organism Regulations

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a notice announcing that it has determined that Monsanto Company corn designated as transformation event LY038 is no longer considered a regulated article under APHIS' regulations governing the introduction (importation, interstate movement, or release into the environment) of genetically engineered organisms.
