Miscellaneous International Trade Notices
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a press release announcing that Malaysia has decided to reopen its market to U.S. boneless beef and beef products from animals under 30 months of age. The USTR states that the initial agreement will allow U.S. plants currently approved by Malaysia to resume such exports and notes that the U.S. and Malaysia are currently finalizing the import documentation statements and details so that trade can begin. 2. APHIS Allows Import of Certain Peppers from Central America Without Treatment
The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a final rule which amends 7 CFR Part 319 in order to allow certain types of peppers grown in approved registered production sites in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua to be imported, under certain conditions into the U.S., without treatment, effective March 7, 2006. 3. ITA Issues Export Trade Certificate of Review to CA Tomato Export Group
The International Trade Administration (ITA) issued an Export Trade Certificate of Review to the California Tomato Export Group (CTEG) for certain processed tomato products on February 21, 2006. 4. FDA Draft Guidance on Fresh-Cut Fruits and Vegetables Available
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the availability of a draft guidance for industry entitled "Guidance for Industry: Guide to Minimize Microbial Food Safety Hazards of Fresh-Cut Fruits and Vegetables." Comments on the draft guidance and the information collection provisions are due by 05/05/06. 5. FSIS Proposed Rule on Availability of Lists of Retail Consignees During Meat or Poultry Product Recalls
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a proposed rule to amend the federal meat and poultry products inspection regulations to provide that FSIS will make available to the public lists of the retail consignees of meats and poultry products that have been voluntarily recalled by a federally inspected meat or poultry products establishment if product has been distributed to the retail level.
