The Journal of Commerce reports that the American Trucking Association is warning that there is already a shortage of 20,000 drivers in long-haul trucking that could increase to 111,000 by 2014 if current trends continue. 2. California Exporter to Pay $31,000 Penalty to Settle Charges of Unlicensed Exports of Biological Toxin
The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) has issued a press release announcing that Elan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of South San Francisco, CA agreed to pay a $31,000 civil penalty to settle charges that it exported PRIALT, a sub-unit of conotoxin, to Belgium in violation of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Under the terms of the settlement agreement, Elan is required to perform an internal audit of its export compliance program. 3. Federal Register Notice on Availability of FDA Revised Guidance for U.S. Dairy Product Manufacturers/Processors Exporting to Chile
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Federal Register notice announcing the availability of its revised guidance entitled, "Guidance for Industry and FDA: Establishing and Maintaining a List of U.S. Dairy Product Manufacturers/Processors With Interest in Exporting to Chile." 4. Designation of Islamic Jihad Group as Foreign Terrorist Organization
The State Department has issued a notice which states that in consultation with the Attorney General and Treasury Secretary, the Secretary of State has designated the Islamic Jihad Group, also known by other listed aliases, as a foreign terrorist organization pursuant to Section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, as amended (INA). 5. First Meeting of ITA Interagency Working Group on Manufacturing
The International Trade Administration (ITA) was seeking comments by June 20, 2005 for the first meeting of the Interagency Working Group on Manufacturing, scheduled for June 22, 2005.
