Shippers' NewsWire reports that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is expected to issue technical requirements for a container security device (CSD) by the beginning of summer 2007. According to the article, the SAFE Port Act stated that a CSD must at least be able to identify the container, detect and record unauthorized intrusion, and secure a container against tampering. 2. COAC Wants to Focus More on Trade Facilitation Matters

According to The Journal of Commerce Online, after focusing on security matters during the five years following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Departmental Advisory Committee on Commercial Operations of Customs and Border Protection and Related Homeland Security Functions (COAC) wants to return to trade facilitation matters and has agreed to form a standing subcommittee to address such matters. 3. U.S., Canada & Mexico Security and Prosperity Partnership Met in February

The State Department's Washington File reports that cross-border security threats and efforts to boost trade were the focus of the February 23, 2007 meeting of the U.S., Canada, and Mexico under the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America. 4. USA-ITA Announces Cotton Board Trade Mission to Morocco, Egypt & Turkey

The U.S. Association of Importers of Textiles and Apparel (USA-ITA) has issued a Textile Development Memo which announces that the Cotton Board is planning its 7th trade mission from April 29, 2007 to May 11, 2007 and will visit Morocco, Egypt, and Turkey in order to assess the manufacturing capabilities in the region and prepare a report. 5. FDA Announces Three Seminars on its Medical Device Regulations

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a series of three seminars on FDA medical device regulations. These seminars are designed to address the training needs of start up and small device manufacturers and their suppliers, and will include both industry and FDA perspectives and a question and answer period. The seminars are planned for March 15-16, 2007 (Irvine, CA); May 22-23, 2007 (Lakewood, CO); and June 6-7, 2007 in Pittsburgh, PA. (See notice for registration information and other details.) 6. FDA Announces Two Hearings on Safety of Fresh Produce

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced two public hearings (March 20, 2007 in Oakland, CA and April 13, 2007 in College Park, MD) concerning the safety of fresh produce.
